아버지에게 사진은 일상이고 생활이셨습니다. 우리가 평생을 뵈 온 아버지는 어께에 가방을 항상 메고 다니셨는데, 그 안에는 카메라가 늘 들어있었습니다. 특히 라이카의 M시리즈를 좋아하셨지만, 연로해지신 후에는 소형 자동카메라로 대신하였습니다. 그 카메라를 통해 아버지는 일상과 그의 주변 모습을 담아 두셨습니다. 아버지가 60 무렵부터 십여년을 두고 한달에 한번씩은 불교사진연합회 동호인들과 함께 밤차로 촬영을 가셨는데, 새벽에 도착한 여러 사찰과 명승지의 풍광은 큰 즐겨움이셨을 겁니다. 여기에 소개한 몇 작품은 그때 새벽길 아버지의 눈길이 머물럿던 곳입니다. 지상아이엔씨의 창립 40주년을 기념하여 이제 아버지의 작품을 꺼내서, 이문선 작가를 통해 그 중 13점을 추렸습니다. 저로서는 작품성을 논하기보다 화인더를 통해 본 아버지의 눈길과 새벽 이슬을 가르던 그 발길이 더 그립습니다. 이 작품을 보시는 분들 모두 그립고 따뜻한 마음으로 함께 감상해주시면 좋겠습니다.

Photography has always been a part of my father’s life. As far as we can all remember, he was always seen with a shoulder bag, in which he carried his camera. Of all the cameras he collected, M series by Leica was his favorite, and even as he aged and started carrying a lighter shoulder bag, the camera was always a must-have for him. The cameras may have gotten smaller over the years, but his desire for photography only grew larger.

I remember my father used to take a monthly photography trip with his colleagues from Buddhist Photography Community. For more than a decade, he enjoyed traveling to historic temple sites overnight to capture beautiful sceneries at the break of dawn. The photographs in this exhibit are what he had captured back in those days.

In honor of celebrating the 40th anniversary of Jisang Inc., we would like to revisit his artwork from over the years. With the help of Mr. Lee Moon-Sun, a renowned photographer, 13 pieces have been carefully selected and restored to reflect his endless pursuit of and excitement towards the art of photography. The snowy roads and early morning dew in these artworksare what he discovered via the viewfinder, and I would like to invite all of you to join me in taking a trip down memory lane through his photographs.
